Organic pest control with organic pesticides

Are you wondering how to get rid of various pests by using organic pesticides? Here are a few suggestions:

Aphids

You can get rid of aphids on indoor and outdoor plants by spraying the affected plant repeatedly with an insecticidal soap or a solution of alcohol and soap with some water. It will take a few treatments before all the aphids have died. Spray the plant with the soap and wipe off any aphids. Alternatively you can wipe the aphids off with a paper towel.

Mites

Mites are best treated with light horticultural oils such as Concern pesticide spray oil. Depending on how big your mite problem is you might have to repeat the treatment a few times.

Birds

If your garden produce is being eaten by birds, consider hanging up some old and unused cds in trees and plants to chase birds away. This is a very cheap and effective way to stop them from eating your berries! (Tin can lids with holes stamped in them work well and put your kitchen refuse to good use.)

Organic Pest Control Products

Successful organic pest control products include:
Volck Oil
This oil can be used on indoor plants to make them shine or on outdoor plats (following the instructions on the bottle) to ward off scale insects and spiders, mites, and several types of bugs. The oil is particularly effective on fruit plants and trees.
Beer Baits
Beer baits are usually nothing but a shallow bowl or dish that is placed in an outdoor or even indoor area where snails and slugs go. These animals are attracted by the beer, drink themselves into a stupor, and eventually they die.

Prohibited Organic Pest Control Products

Most pest control products containing hydrocarbon have now been prohibited. These products will end up in the fatty tissue and bodies of mammals and birds, causing pain and potentially death. Research is now being done into developing a less harmful type of hydrocarbon that is as effective but less dangerous.

Benefits of Organic Pest Control

With or ganic pest control mites, slugs and bugs can be kept away. But of course there are more benefits to using organic pest control products. They are often less expensive than their chemical counterparts and can sometimes be mixed up at home. The introduction of beneficial insects, like ladybugs or preying mantis give you an active population in your garden, one that will delight you and fascinate your children.

Precautions before Using Organic Pest Control Measures

Organic pest control products are a safer and often less harmful way of dealing with pests. Just keep a few key points in mind.
  • Always read the labels on organic pest and organic lawn pest control product containers.
  • Carefully follow the instructions for use of the product.
  • Keep children away from any type of organic garden pest control product.
  • Don't use more pest control products than necessary. Organic pesticides often work better when re-applied a few times.
